Acupuncture is an ancient therapy that originated in China and can be traced back more than 3000 years ago. It is one of the most well established health care systems in the world. The fundamental theory of Acupuncture is based on the foundation of life force “Qi”. The energy circulates along 12 meridians; each meridian connects with a specific internal organ and organ system. Today, people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds are using Acupuncture. The popularity of acupuncture has increased significantly due to its holistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes to prevent of illness as on the treatment.

How does Acupuncture work?

During an Acupuncture treatment, the practitioner will insert one or more sterile needles into specific acupuncture points to clear blockages and correct the imbalances of the flow of Qi in order to promote health and well being.

Is it painful?

Acupuncture needles used today are all disposable, to ensure high standards of health and safety, they are made from extremely fine and quality stainless steel. The insertion of the needle is fairly fast; in most cases it is minimal to zero discomfort. The type of sensation with acupuncture may vary such as warmth and tingling.

Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide range of disorders including:

  • Digestive Disorders
  • Gastrointestinal Disorders
  • Respiratory Disorders
  • Musculoskeletal Disorders
  • Circulatory Disorders
  • Gynecological Disorders
  • Neurological Disorders
  • Ear , Nose, Throat Disorders
  • Addiction (Tobacco and Alcohol)

How long does a treatment session take?

One treatment session usually takes about 60 minutes. (incl consultation and treatment)

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on the individual condition, the treatment plan will vary. Please see our TCM practitioner for further details.

Lifestyle and dietary changes, self-relaxation techniques, gentle exercise, Tui Na and/or Chinese herbal medicine in support with acupuncture treatment may reduce the number of treatments needed.
